Gary Raymond Phelps, 80, passed away at his home on May 21, 2022. Born in Manchester, CT on April 02, 1943, he was the son of Elroy Phelps and Mary (McCaughey) Phelps. Gary grew up in Manchester and attended Sewanee, the University of the South, in Tennessee, where he was a forestry major. Gary moved to Granby, MA after marrying the love of his life, Cynthia Gallup Phelps, a Granby native. Gary's second love was public service, contributing as a volunteer firefighter, an EMT, a member of the Lions Club for many years, Granby Tree Warden, and most recently with the Granby Preservation Society in his passion project of restoring Kellogg Hall. Gary will be missed by his sons, George Phelps of Chatham, NY and Jared Phelps of Granby along with his dear granddaughter, Fiona Rose Phelps, and his nephews and niece, Matthew, Tim and Beth Phelps. Beers & Story Funeral Homes, South Hadley, MA, Funeral Home has been entrusted with Gary's arrangements. Donations can be made in Gary's name to the Granby Preservation Society and/ or the American Cancer Society.
