Stetson, Maine - George J. Trueman, 82, passed away peacefully at home on September 1, 2025. George was born to George Edward Trueman and Margaret (Gordon) Trueman, on April 28, 1943, in Hartford, Connecticut.

After graduating high school, George enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1962 to 1968, when he was honorably discharged as an Engineman 2nd Class. While in the Navy, George distinguished himself and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Good Conduct Award and the National Defense Service Medal. 

In 1975, George married Mary (Spillers) Bean, the girl he had been waiting for. They enjoyed making a life together for 40 years until her passing in 2015, living in Connecticut, Florida, and finally Maine.

George was a gifted mechanic and made a career using these skills, including working at Foreign Cars of Manchester, CT, and as a fleet mechanic for Brevard County, FL, before retiring in 2002. At that time he and Mary moved to Maine, where they lived together in Dixmont, enjoying each other's company and time with family and friends. 

After Mary passed in 2015, despite his deep sadness and some health challenges, George's determination to carry on with a positive attitude was amazing and successful. He forged ahead, and got himself out and involved. He went to exercise classes in Brewer on a daily basis and made new and meaningful friendships that expanded well beyond the class schedule. He also kept old friendships from Connecticut and Florida going despite the distance, and stayed in regular contact with his sister Peggy in Connecticut until she passed in 2022. He especially looked forward to the daily evening calls from his nieces, Sheena, Jodi and Laura, which were marked on his calendar and very important to him.

George enjoyed spending time with his stepson, Dave, including fishing and hunting trips and family dinners. George was a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast and competed in late model sportsman division racing in Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

George had a dry sense of humor and a love of old t-shirts, or to be more accurate, he loved his t-shirts until they were old, and beyond. Little did he know what a hipster he appeared to be, wearing his slim and slightly undersized Tweety Bird t-shirt under a faded and well worn button-down shirt - with the arms cut off at the shoulder. He had a certain flair, and the greaser vibe never left him. George was stoic but it was very clear that he had a deep heart. Whenever asked his take on something, he often responded, "Not too bad." We wish him to rest in peace with Mary, somewhere that's "Not too bad." He was a good dad to his three stepsons, and his unwavering love for his wife, Mary, was inspiring. She was right beside him all the time. George will be sadly missed but not forgotten.

George was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Edwards; and his stepsons, Ronald and Robert Bean. George is survived by his stepson, David Bean and wife, Liz' and his nieces, Laura Kelly, Sheena Edwards and Jodi Stone; as well as great-nephews, Andrew and Kyle Stevenson, and great-nieces, Taylor Edwards, Lynn Carrabino, Lisa Sturdevant, and Katherine Bayerle.
