Geraldine Silver (Hoboth)

Geraldine Hoboth of Tolland, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her husband William and daughters Jennifer and Stephanie.
Geri was born on January 15, 1942, in Hartford to Lester and Lillian Silver. After living in Vernon for a short time with Bill, her husband of 62 years, they moved to Tolland, where they lived for more than 55 years. Tolland was where she raised her children Adam, Susan, Jenny, and Stephanie. She was famous for her Magic Window Cookies at Christmas time, for canning applesauce, chili, jam, and jelly, making homemade doughnuts, and for her delicious meatloaf. She eventually worked at the Tolland Public Library, where she oversaw the overdue books. She started at the original library on the Tolland Green and helped with the move to the current site. She greatly enjoyed helping the public at the service desk. She got to know many people in town through the library, where she had many special coworkers.
She loved all animals, including her cat Max, and still mourned the loss of her beloved dogs Sadie and Toby. One of her great joys in life was taking Sadie and Toby for walks every day at Crandall's Park. Over the years, she loved visiting Mashamoquet State Park with her family and pets. She was an avid reader who also loved her flower gardens and feeding the birds, especially the bluebirds and hummingbirds that returned to her yard each spring. Every weekend she went with her husband and children to visit her mother Lillian at her Manchester home. She loved seeing her brother David and uncle George Volkert there. She loved visiting her daughters' homes and spending time surrounded by her family, including the absolute light of her life, her granddaughter Samantha Lillian Hoboth, 10. Samantha brought so much joy to her life, especially with her hugs and drawings.
Besides her husband Bill, daughters Jennifer and Stephanie, and granddaughter Samantha, Geri is also survived by: her special niece Debbie Reynolds of Florida; her close cousin Joyce Simler of Scotland, CT; longtime family friend Peter W. Robinson of Manchester who visited on their porch to enjoy their company and the beauty of their yard; her very special neighbors Barry and Marianne Call who we thank for being such a help and comfort to her; a daughter Susan; and a sister Sally; and many other family members.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Adam, a heartbreaking loss in 2019; her beloved brother David, her brother Carl; her beloved uncle George Volkert; her mother- and father-in-law Jessie and Frank Hoboth; and her longtime neighbor and special friend Alice Works.
Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. For online condolences, please visit: www.pietrasfuneralhome.com
