Dawn Molumphy

Dawn Molumphy passed away on January 26, 2017 at her home in Redlands, CA., at the age of 73.
Dawn was born in Hartford, CT on February 5, 1943 to Lillian (Galinsky) and Robert "Red" Molumphy. She graduated from Manchester High School in Connecticut and then attended Intermont College. After earning a degree from Southern Connecticut State College, Dawn went on to teach physical education at Norwich (CT) Free Academy until the lure of the west drew her and a childhood friend to California. She earned a Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University.
Dawn taught physical education and English at Bloomington High School in Bloomington, CA from 1967 to 2003. She generously supported a variety of programs at BHS, including athletics, drama, journalism, and music. She was active in the teachers' association, serving on bargaining teams and as president of the Association of Colton Educators. She chaired the English department, coached Mock Trial teams, and announced at football games for many years.
Dawn loved sports (especially baseball and the Boston Red Sox), reading, and travel. Dawn enjoyed the beach and spent many childhood and adulthood hours soaking up the sun both in CT and CA. After her retirement, she volunteered with the Redlands Police Department's Citizen's Volunteer Patrol. She also served on Grand Juries and volunteered at Redlands Community Hospital.
Dawn will be missed by her family and friends, as well as by thousands of students whose lives she influenced. Her survivors include many cousins, especially Jeff Bartlett and his family of Connecticut, with whom she maintained a close, lifelong friendship.
A scholarship has been established at Bloomington High School to honor her life and work. Contributions may be sent to Bloomington High School, 10750 Laurel Avenue, Bloomington, CA 92316, (care of the Dawn Molumphy Memorial Scholarship).

Dawn was a sports enthusiast when we were in high school and remained so for the rest of her life.  But what I remember from high school....especially during football season...was that she would make sure she sat in the bleachers directly in front of me so that I could see her at all times.  She was so afraid I would screw up the cheers....perhaps have everyone shouting for the defense when MHS was on the offense.   Sometimes she would mouth down cheers and when I followed her instructions, I would see that great big smile.

Last fall, a few of us were lucky to visit with her in a physical rehabilitation center in Glastonbury where she was recovering from a fall in Yankee Stadium.   Her smile and humor were very evident.  We will miss you Dawn.

I remember Dawn from gym class. What fun we had.....except for those silly one piece  rompers we had to wear. And the ridiculous suits we wore for swimming. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh! Fond memories of Dawn will fill the void of her passing!

I remember Dawn from my one year at Bower's School in 5th grade, Miss Jone's class.  She was very athletic and always smiling.  She will be missed by all.

Dawn loved her teams!  If girls had teams in high school in our day dawn would have been our MVP!  She was a MVP as a friend throughout many years.  We reconnected a few years ago...thankfully due to email...and I did see her when she was on one of her favorite tours of baseball stadiums while in retirement.  We met at Quincy market in Boston, after she had been at Fenway Park two years ago, and had a nice visit catching up.   We continued to keep in close touch after that and I will miss her emails talking about our dear Red Sox and checking on me when she heard about bad weather on the East Coast.  She always ended each email with "Be well, my friend."  I will now say to her, "Rest in Peace, my friend."
