Thomas H. McCartan of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on May 3, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Patricia Beaurivage McCartan, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 1st.
Tom was born on July 16, 1943, in Manchester, CT. He attended St. James School, Manchester High School, and St. Francis College. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 38 years, which enabled him to live and travel internationally—a passion he shared with Patricia, resulting in many memorable adventures.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Cecile (DeCelles) McCartan. In addition to Patricia, he is survived by his son Tom and his partner Gayle Metz of Taylorsville, UT; daughter Robin and her husband Jason Carey of South Windsor, CT; and his beloved grandchildren Erin and her husband Del Varesio of Manchester, CT; Andrew Carey and fiancée Caitlyn Havican of Allston, MA; Patrick Carey; and Benjamin Carey of South Windsor, CT.
He also leaves behind his siblings: Peter McCartan of Nevada, Kathleen McCartan of Connecticut, Theresa and her husband Robert Donovan of South Carolina, Dennis McCartan and his wife Maryann of Colorado, and Patricia Prue and her husband David Wright of New Hampshire. Additionally, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was known for his good humor and storytelling. He was proud to have recently celebrated 50 years of sobriety, a testament to his strength and determination, helping others to find sobriety. He volunteered at NCH Hospital Baker in Naples prior to COVID-19, was a member of The Moorings Golf Club, and enjoyed reading, golfing, and playing cards. He took great joy in being actively involved in his grandchildren's education, supporting them in their journey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 896 Main Street, Manchester, with interment at St. James Cemetery immediately following.
