Persephone Kambas (Antonio)

Persephone Kambas (Antonio)

Persephone (Kambas) Antonio, 80, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of 56 years to Louis Antonio, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital. Born on November 3, 1943 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John and Irene Kambas. Persephone chose to forge a career as an insurance agent for New York Life because it afforded her the opportunity to make a difference helping people prepare for their future, while giving her the flexibility to be at home with her young children. Once her children became older, Persephone undertook a new challenge and founded her own medical recruiting agency, Access Placement, in which she helped countless professionals advance their careers.

Anyone who met Persephone knew there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren. Persephone will always be remembered most by her caring demeanor, quick-witted personality, elegant style, and dispensing life’s advice. That desire to guide those around her was central to her core - always helping her family and friends navigate decisions. Persephone loved spending time in Cape Cod, watching the ocean, while conversing with her family and friends. She loved the holidays, where she should would cook Greek food and gather with her extended family. She started a tradition of two Christmas trees in her house, that is carried on today by her children.

A loving wife, mother, and Yia Yia, she will be forever missed by her husband Louis, son Stephen and his wife Jennifer, her daughter Renna Schoenfeld and her husband Matt, and her four cherished grandchildren. Persephone will be remembered in the hearts and minds of everyone she knew.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, August 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, August 15 from 5-7:30 p.m. with a Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Memorial donations in Persephone’s name may be made to the American Stroke Association or Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hartford. I met Persephone in middle school and then we continued our friendship into high school.  Her father was s friend of my father's.  My father had his office in the odd fellows building and I remember her father had a restaurant there.  We lost touch after high school,  but remember her as a smart, always friendly teen.  My kindest wishes to her family.
