Tomas, Linda J. (nee: Frazier), age 70, of Glen Rock, on Monday, May 26, 2014. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Linda had lived in Ridgewood and North Haledon before moving to Glen Rock in 1988. Linda Tomas was a consummate educator. A high school English teacher for 45 years, Linda began her career in Connecticut, where she taught at Pulaski High School in New Britain, CT, Gideon Wells High School in Glastonbury, CT, and Penny High School in East Hartford, CT. In 1971, she began teaching at Glen Rock High School, where she worked for over 40 years until her retirement in 2012. In her time at Glen Rock High School, Linda was a powerful role model for teachers and students alike. She was an integral member of the Department of English where she taught every grade level and created many courses including Creative Writing and an interdisciplinary course, Humanities and the Arts, where she combined her passions for art and literature. Linda was an accomplished writer and artist who encouraged her students' creative talents as well. She was a long-time advisor of the art and literary magazine at Glen Rock High School, and she was the founder of Morning of Poetry, a forum in which students shared their own original works. An avid reader, Linda was a long-time member of the GRHS faculty-staff book group, a membership that she continued even after her retirement. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Ridgewood. Linda was the beloved wife of Robert Tomas. Loving mother of Lauren Lamendola and her husband Brian of Dumont. Dear grandmother of Cole Lamendola of Dumont. Dearest sister of Lawrence R. Frazier of East Hartford, CT, and Robert L. Frazier and his wife Patricia of Marco Island, FL. Funeral will depart at 10:15 AM on Friday, May 30, 2014 from the Browning-Forshay Funeral Home, 557 Lafayette Ave., Hawthorne for an 11:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church, Ridgewood. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
