Bonnie Valente (Douglas)

Bonnie-Jean L. (Valente) Douglas, 58, of Manchester, beloved wife of Bill Douglas, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at her home with her husband by her side.

Born June 21, 1943 in Manchester, daughter of William D. Valente of Manchester and the late Louise (Stavens) Valente, she had been a resident of Manchester most of her life, graduating from Manchester High School, and worked at the former Connecticut Mutual Insurance Co.

Bonnie-Jean was a member of the first class of the opening semester of Manchester Community College, majoring in elderly health care. She worked for many years for the late Dr. Ed Griswold of Bolton and cared for him prior to his death. After a courageous battle with breast cancer, she had no fear of dying. She maintained a positive, loving, and inspiring attitude throughout her illness. She received visits from loved family members and was cared for daily by her devoted husband. Her marriage to Bill was one filled with a sacred and blessed love. They shared their life totally and focused on God, family, and being kind to one another. God gave Bonnie-Jean many gifts, a deep abiding faith, a charismatic personality, and a smile that lights up a room. She was a beloved wife and mother, who was beautiful and loving to us all. Ren She worked with the late Ella Grasso on her campaign for governor and also helped Ella with the institution of a screening program in all schools in Connecticut for scoliosis.

Besides her husband and father, Bonnie-Jean is survived by her children, David Smith of Manchester, Robyn Klouse of Ansonia, Billy, Palmy, and Johnny Douglas, all of Boston; two grandchildren, Danielle and Nathaniel; her sister, Donna Cole of Virginia.

May God bless and keep Bonnie-Jean in His Kingdom.

The funeral service and burial in the East Cemetery, Manchester, are private.

There are no calling hours.

The Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester, has care of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution in Bonnie’s name to the National Scoliosis Foundation, 5 Cabot Place, Stoughton, MA 02072.
