Douglas Korner

Douglas Allen Korner, 55, of Storrs, died unexpectedly Monday morning (June 28, 1999) at his summer home in Eastford. He was the husband of Sherry (Anderson) Korner. They were married July 12, 1969 in Christ Episcopal Church in Stratford. He was born October 11, 1943 in Manchester, son of the late A. Raymond and Frances (Hemmler) Korner. Mr. Korner wa-s a retired advertising executive. He was employed by the Hartford Courant newspaper for 25 years, retiring in 1995. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving with the U.S. Navy from 1961-to 1964. He has made his home in Storrs for the last 30 years and summered at his cottage on Crystal Lake in Eastford for 25 years. He was a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church in Bolton. He received the Naval "Honor Man Award" in Basic Training. While Doug will be long remembered for his sensitivity, honesty, and dependability, as well as for his membership in the R.R. Club, his pyrotechnic abilities, and his famous impressions, he will perhaps be most often and lovingly remembered for his motto: Dugl-Do-lt. In addition to his wife he leaves one daughter, Collene Alyce Korner of Albuquerque, NM; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Frederick and Joanne Korner of Eastford; a nephew and his wife, James Frederick and Melody Korner and their daughter Myranda of Manchester; and a niece, Kathryn Gail Korner of Mansfield. A memorial service will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Georges Episcopal Church, 1150 Boston Tnpk. (Route 44), Bolton, followed by a reception in the church parish hall. There are no calling hours. Burial at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Georges Episcopal Church, 1150 Boston Tnpk., Bolton, 06043, or the Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd., Ashford, 06278. The Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, is in charge of the arrangements.
