Raymond Dotchin

Raymond P. Dotchin, 62, of Sherwood Drive, co-owner and president of Colt Insurance Co. in Pittsfield, died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital.

Born in Hartford, Conn., on Sept. 6, 1943, son of Raymond and Flavia Pinney Dotchin, he was a 1961 graduate of Manchester (Conn.) High School and received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Hartford in 1966.

Mr. Dotchin joined Colt in 1976. Before that, he was manager of Crum and Foster Insurance in Springfield and worked for Aetna Insurance. He became co-owner of Colt in 1987.

He was a member of the board of Legacy Banks, a past director of the Independent Insurance Agents of Massachusetts and a member of the corporation of Berkshire Medical Center. He was a charter member of the BMC Golf Committee, serving as its chairman since 1992.

In 1999, Mr. Dotchin was a recipient of the Gladys Brigham Award, given annually by the BMC board of trustees and BMC Auxiliary to honor an outstanding individual for distinguished volunteer service to the hospital and community. He was active on other boards, including the Lenox Youth Basketball Association and the Berkshire County LLABO Basketball Officials.

He was involved with the Boys' and Girls' Club, the Catholic Youth Center, the Dalton Community Center and the Housatonic Youth Basketball Association. He was a member of the Country Club of Pittsfield and had served on its board since the 1980s. A single-handicap golfer, he scored four holes in one.

He and his wife, the former Margaret L. Boya, were married Jan. 21, 1967, in Wethersfield, Conn.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David R. Dotchin of Boston; a daughter, Sara L. Andersen of Milwaukee; two brothers, Richard Dotchin of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Dotchin of Alexandria, Va.
