Miss Burns Dies, Hurt in Crash

Miss Mary Katherine Burns, 18, of 135 Hilliard St. who was convalescing from severe back injuries suffered in an automobile accident, November 19, died yesterday at Hartford Hospital.

She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Gary Andrews, 18, of Echo Ln., Glastonbury, which went off Neipsic Rd. in Glastonbury, hit a tree, and overturned several times according to Glastonbury police.  She and the three others in the car were sent to Hartford Hospital.

She also was admitted to Manchester Memorial Hospital later.  Dr, Donald Hazen, acting medical examiner for Hartford, said an autopsy had been performed, but that the result would not be released for some time.

She was born Nov. 18, 1942, in Concord, N.H., a daughter of Leon and Maria Long Burns, and was a senior at Manchester High School.  She came to Manchester with her parents two years ago.

Surviving, besides her parents, are two sisters, Eileen and Claire Burns, both at home, and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Long of East Hartford.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Walter N. Leclerc Funeral Home, 23 Main St. followed by a solemn Mass of requiem at St, Bridget's Church at 9 o'clock.  Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock, and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
